Narrative function

No time for a dolly. Emphasis as a weapon: a face, a gun, a sign.

The snap is so short it can read as an axial cut with a trail of glass. A crash zoom is already fast; this is faster than a polite crash.

If you can feel a leisurely enlarge, it is not rapid. If the body moved, you dollied.

How it works

Locked sticks or a locked handheld brace, zoom thrown to the end stop in a fraction of a second, then hold. Wide to tight.

No parallax. Prompt: Rapid zoom in on [Subject], faster than a polite crash, almost a cut, the world snapping tight.

When to use it

Use it when a fact must arrive as a snap, not a walk. Do not use it on every line.

Compared with similar shots

Crash Zoom In is the punch that is still readable as a zoom. Rapid is nearer a cut.
